The Great Gulf
The Great Gulf is the largest ravine in the White Mountains, and is drained by the West Branch of the Peabody River. It forms a divide between Mt Washington and the peaks of the northern Presidentials; Jefferson, Adams, and Madison.The Great Gulf trail runs from the parking area on Rt 16 up the gulf, past Spaulding Lake, up the 1600' headwall, to the summit of Washington. Other trails branching off are Osgood Ridge, Madison Gulf, Chandler Brook, Wamsutta, Buttress, Six Husbands, and Sphinx.
