The RMC operates four backcountry facilities in the northern Presidentials; Gray Knob, Crag Camp, The Log Cabin, and The Perch. There is currently a $12/night fee at Gray Knob and it operates on a first-come/first-served basis.
Gray Knob is a winterized cabin with a cook stove and a heat storve that is only for use by the RMC Caretaker, who lives here. Cabin users must bring their own cook stoves. The wood heat stove is used sparingly, and you should not expect temps in the cabin to above 40 degrees. So, bring winter sleeping bags and clothing. Sleeping quarters for 15 are upstairs. If the cabin is full, overflow crowds will be directed to other RMC facilities. The cabin is located just off Lowe's Path, below the summit of Adams. It is the most comfortable of the RMC facilities, having been completely rebuilt in 1989.
